🦸 Alter Ego Origin Stories
Hear about the genesis of AIMI and how we're democratizing AI education.
🤖 The Genesis of the AI Maturity Index
Trying something new today and doing a bit of a story time in both audio and written format. I hate the sound of my voice so I deeply regret this already but let me know your thoughts.
I realized that I’ve been sharing project updates for the AI Maturity Index project but that very few of you actually know what it is or how it came about. So today is a bit of a storytime.
For those of you who don't know me very well, I've been in the “future of work” space for quite a while and I've had a unique position where I've been able to see how skills evolve, especially in the tech landscape, very rapidly. I've mostly worked with freelance talent marketplaces where you can see, in live time, supply and demand for different skill sets across the globe. My reach to date is 4.5 million workers in 190+ countries so the dataset that I've been exposed to is quite expansive. I think this is what put me in a unique position when I was chatting with my friend co-creator of this project, Iwo Szapar, earlier this year.
Iwo's the founder of the Remote-first Institute, and he is the Chief AI Officer the Saudi AI Leadership Forum. Since we’re both chronically online tech nerds, we have been absolutely battered by the AI fear-mongering in the media for the past two years and wanted to put some actual facts and research behind all of it.
This was the genesis of the project. Who’s using AI? How? And is it really impacting the entire workforce (negatively) already?
What we knew
Workers are worried. 47% worry that advancements in AI within the next. 5years will cause them to lose their jobs.
Not everyone is being impacted in the same way. Some skills are at risk for automation, some for augmentation, and some are at low risk of exposure.
Hiring managers are prioritizing AI skills. 66% of leaders won’t hire someone without AI skills and 77% would hire juniors with AI skills over seniors without them.
The learning path is unclear and overwhelming. New tools and applications are popping up at really rapid rates.
Companies don’t even know what’s happening in their own teams. 75% of workers are using GenAI at work, 78% of them are bringing their own AI (not company implemented).
If we could measure current adoption, then we can measure progress and make tailored coaching and learning plans for both individuals and teams.
From Research Project to Revolutionary Tool
What started as simply wanting to run one-off research soon illuminated a market gap. There’s a major need for an ongoing tool that can solve for all of these problems and questions.
The Solution: AI Maturity Index
This complex landscape led us to develop the AI Maturity Index, a tool that helps both individuals and organizations:

Where we’re at
This week marked a significant milestone for the AI Maturity Index (AIMI) team.
🚀 All of our past research participants have received their full reports!
🦸 P.S. Confused by the subject line today? Each user gets their own alter egos (AI Superhero and Evil Villain based on their responses)
❤️ USERS ARE LOVING IT!
🤖 By tomorrow (if it hasn’t been shipped already by the time this goes out) all of our reports will be automated for users.
So, if you haven’t already, get going on your 15-minute interview with our AI assistant to get your AIMI score and personalized report. It’s currently free so… no excuses.
🏆️ Shoutout to the homies
This was not done alone. There have been many fantastic people who have helped on this journey.
Iwo, Marek, Mikolaj, Anna, Staszek Sr., Staszek Jr., John, Brandon, Jess, and Matthew - congratulations on sending this out into the wild and THANK YOU. You’ve re-ignited a spark in my work that I lost for a while and I’m grateful to all of you.
Want to learn more or get involved? Visit ai-maturity-index.com or reach out directly. We have deep discounts for early adopters of the teams reports so, if that’s of interest, strike while the iron is hot.
That’s all for now, pals. See ya next week.
